Child in Samoa dies of suffocation in family car

8:11 am on 7 March 2012

The police in Samoa are investigating the death of a child who died from suffocation while sleeping in a family car.

The police commissioner, Lilomaiava Fou Taioalo, says the three year old was sleeping in the locked vehicle with all windows up while members of the family were busy in a family event.

The commissioner says there is no post mortem because the coroner is satisfied that suffocation was the cause of death.

Police have yet to lay charges against any member of the victim's family.
