The Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Secretariat is welcoming the announcement in Fiji of a consultation process for the writing of a new constitution.
Last week's visit to Fiji by a Commonwealth delegation accompanied the interim government's announcement of the process.
The interim prime minister Commodore Frank Bainmarama says it will include debate by a constituent assembly comprising civil society groups, faith-based organisations, national institutions, political parties, and government.
Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba says the delegation wasn't there to look at the consultation process.
"However we do welcome the promises made in the statement by the prime minister that the process will be inclusive and transparent and be conducted with integrity and honesty."
Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba says talks with the interim government have been broad-ranging and conducted in a spirit of openness.
