Sport: Fiji Warriors back on top of Pacific Rugby Cup

Fiji Warriors have moved to the top of the Pacific Rugby Cup standings after the first round of matches in New Zealand.

The defending champions beat the Crusader Knights 17-13 on Friday, with the previously unbeaten Samoa A thrashed 71-17 by the Chiefs Development team on Saturday.

Tonga A remained winless after a 40-3 defeat by the Blues Development team in Auckland, although coach Isitolo Maka says all things considered they didn't do too badly.

"As you can see the Blues were a very very good side and I think we were very lucky to keep the score down to just 40 points. It won't be easy for us against the Crusader Knights because probably some of their players will get some game time against us so it's very hard for us."

Isitolo Maka's worst fears look set to be realised with Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder confirming he's considering playing Daniel Carter against the Tongans to help him prepare for his Super Rugby return.
