American Samoa Fono leaders adjourn before agreeing LBJ deal

8:38 am on 14 March 2012

Despite efforts by the American Samoa governor to delay a recess by lawmakers until they had sorted out a financial assistance package for the hospital, Fono leaders have decided to break until March the 26th.

On the first day of a special session called by Governor Togiola Tulafono the House and the Senate voted unanimously to adjourn for two weeks.

The House Speaker, Savali Talavou Ale, says usually the Governor discusses the time table for a special session with the Fono leaders, but that did not happen in this instance.

The Senate President Gaoteote Palaie told Senators the recess will give the lawmakers time to negotiate.
