American Samoa tourism industry members are attending the annual Cruise Shipping Miami Convention in Florida this week.

The group is lead by the executive director of the American Samoa Visitor's Bureau, David Vaeafe.

Mr Vaeafe says cruise ship visits is one of the key niches identified in the territory's Tourism Master Plan and an important sector that American Samoa needed to build upon.

He says the territory is getting 19 ships visits this year, which is a record for American Samoa, and if the territory is to capitalize on this, it needs to meet these cruise operators and showcase Pago Pago as a destination.

He says as cruising companies plan their destination visits two to three years in advance, American Samoa plans to give them all the information they need to select American Samoa as a port stop over.

This is the third year American Samoa has participated at this event.
