Tourism marketers in the Cook Islands are looking to Asia as part of plans to boost the viability of the Sydney-Rarotonga flight.

The Cook Islands News reports Cook Islands Tourism Corporation chief executive officer Carmel Beattie and the board chair Ewan Smith told an industry meeting the Sydney flight is providing the Cook Islands with a great potential to better tap into travellers from Asia.

They say high-end travellers from China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan are in the corporation's sights as well as European travellers who are already moving through Asia and Australia and would like to include a Pacific stop.
