In Vanuatu the Seventh Day Adventist church is to set up the first Christian television channel in the country.

The church was granted a licence by the Vanuatu Government to operate a TV channel six years ago but has not been able to go ahead for lack of a tower.

Pastor John Leeman says they've now signed a contract with mobile phone company, Digicel, which has agreed to allow a satellite dish to be attached to its communications tower above Port Vila harbour.

He says the church in Australia will provide the TV equipment.

Pastor Leeman says, what is to be called Hope Television, will feature spiritual songs, preaching, health and other programmes.
