American Samoa Treasury sees surplus after tough stance

11:54 am on 27 March 2012

The American Samoa Treasury says it is finally seeing a surplus in Industrial Park rent and leases.

Last year, the government started filing lawsuits against businesses that were delinquent in their lease payments at the Industrial Park and the Attorney General's Office started sending notices to tenants from the airport who were behind on rent.

The end of the territory's first quarter of the 2012 Fiscal Year resulted in a surplus for the Industrial Park.

The Treasurer Magalei Logovi'i will not reveal how much has been collected from tenants since the government began taking them to court.

But he says the government is definitely seeing an improvement in payments

from businesses.
