Water engineering experts are meeting in Rarotonga this week to develop options for the renewal of the island's aging water supply system.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Planning, Teariki Heather, told the three-day workshop that upgrading the water supply on Rarotonga is a key priority for the government.

The Ministry's acting secretary Donye Numa says the workshop is an important step towards improving and future-proofing the water network, including storage, transmission and distribution.

She says upgrading the network is likely to be one of the most significant infrastructure projects undertaken by the ministry.
