Customs officers in Samoa admit to stealing half a million US dollars

The two former Customs officers in Samoa charged with theft after more than half a million US dollars was taken from the office vault have admitted to the charges.

Their lawyer entered the guilty plea during a pre hearing session on Tuesday.

The defendants have been released on bail to await sentencing on 16 April, however they have been ordered to surrender their passports and to report to the police criminal investigation department twice a week.

It is not known if the money involved has been fully recovered.
