PNG government to reveal aim in sending army detachment to Southern Highlands

The Papua New Guinea government is expected today to reveal details of a call out order for Defence Force troops to be deployed to LNG project sites in Southern Highlands.

The National newspaper reports that the National Executive Council decided on a call out on Wednesday rather than a state of emergency after a commitment from landowners that the blockade at the Hides 4 conditioning plant would be removed.

The soldiers are to assist police restore law and order in the province.
