Vanuatu ambassador to Beijing pleas for the government to send more money

7:36 pm on 29 March 2012

Vanuatu's Ambassador to China in Beijing, Willie Jimmy, has told local newspaper the Daily Post, that the government is not transferring enough funds to meet even basic bills.

He says the government needs to keep its promise and transfer the correct amounts budgetted for all the country's foreign missions.

Mr Jimmy says the 15 thousand US dollars he was sent at the beginning of the year to cover the first six months is just not enough to even pay the rent, which is twice that amount.

Mr Jimmy says when he finishes his term at the end of May he wants all the Beijing mission's bills sorted out.

He says those who calculate the amounts do not take into consideration the commercial environment of the mission and the cost of living in Beijing.
