The Ombudsman in Papua New Guinea says he will not be directed or dictated to by any person or authority and will exercise his powers independently.
The National newspaper quotes Chronox Manek says he's responding to criticism from political leaders over the Commission's silence on issues such as the controversial Judicial Conduct law.
Earlier this week Sir Michael Somare was one who asked why Mr Manek had not acted over this law and other legislative moves by the O'Neill administration.
But Mr Manek says the critics lack understanding of the facts and processes by which the commission carries out its constitutional functions and duties.
He says the commission keeps a watching brief on each situation, and is conducting its own research and analysis of evidence on constitutional and political issues including the new law.
