Sport: Fiji feeling confident ahead of Tokyo Sevens

6:17 am on 31 March 2012

Fiji says their recent success against New Zealand has boosted their confidence in the race for the overall World Sevens Series title.

The Fijians trail New Zealand by just two points after beating their rivals in last week's Hong Kong final.

It was their second win over the series leaders in three Cup finals this season and ahead of today's first day of the Tokyo Sevens, captain Setefano Cakau says the team is starting to believe they can go all the way.

"I've been stressing the boys the importance of the games against them. Beating them twice in the Cup final it's something that boosts our morale and keep on building it so that at the end of the series we are up there and win the IRB Sevens Series title."

Fiji open their tournament against France and will also play hosts Japan and England in pool play.

Samoa is pooled alongside Scotland, South Africa and Portugal.
