New Zealand PM says no formal request from Fiji

The New Zealand Government has received no formal request for help from Fiji.

But the Prime Minister, John Key, says it stands ready to help.

"Last time we had the floods in Fiji. I think we worked through the Red Cross from memory and donated money, they then distribute that for food and blankets and repair services on the ground. I imagine it would be similar."

John Key says the resources of the military are also available if required.

And Australia says it is working with Fiji organisations to assess the damage and determine what emergency support is needed.
