Niue records new dengue cases

12:57 pm on 4 April 2012

There's been a resurgence in dengue fever on Niue.

An outbreak at the end of February saw three people needing hospital treatment and the chief medical officer, Dr Eddie Akau'ola says they treated four more last week and another three so far this week.

He says campaigns to eliminate breeding grounds for mosquitoes are running in the local media.

"Last week we ran the campaign again. Unfortunately, it was raining heavily on the island, but the spraying is still going on continuously. Advice to people to clean up their houses and destroy the likely breeding grounds for the mosquito and also avoid being bitten by mosquitoes."
