The Union of Workers in Solomon Islands has condemned the recent increase of salaries and travelling expenses for members of Parliament .
The Parliamentary Entitlement Commission approved four percent salary increases and several thousand additional dollars in travel expenses.
According to the Solomon Star, a union leader, Johnley Hatimoana, has described the action as a slap in the face for workers.
Mr Hatimoana says teachers, nurses, doctors, paramedics and other public servants have had to fight for years for pay increases.
