The governor-general of Tuvalu has shown interest in purchasing goods and trading with American Samoa, if a direct air or ocean link is established between the countries.

Tuvalu's Governor General Sir Iakoba Taeia Italeli who visited Pago Pago last week, held talks with the American Samoa Governor Togiola Tulafono on several issues.

Togiola says the two parties discussed plans to establish a direct air link between Pago Pago and Tuvalu, providing residents and the government of Tuvalu a second destination to travel for purchasing goods.

The only existing direct link for Tuvalu is to Fiji but products there are far more expensive than in American Samoa.
