Sport: Oceania rugby confident of American Samoa IRB membership

The President of the Federation of Oceania Rugby Unions FORU, Harry Schuster, is confident American Samoa will become a full member of the IRB.

Next month's IRB meeting in New Zealand will decide American Samoa's fate.

Schuster was in American Samoa recently to attend the inaugural TMO Marist Pago Sevens

He says he's impressed with how quickly the American Samoa Rugby Union is moving forward and once admitted as a full member they can bid to host IRB and Oceania tournaments.

Schuster believes the development of sevens in American Samoa will be similar to Samoa when Marist first started its international sevens tournament.

It was initially dominated by overseas teams but gradually local clubs began to take the ascendancy.
