PNG politicians urged to surrender guns

1:42 pm on 1 May 2012

All members of parliament in Papua New Guinea have been challenged to surrender their guns before the country goes to elections to ensure a free, fair and safe election.

The Post Courier newspaper reports the police minister, John Boito, who has volunteered to be the first to hand in his gun, as saying all MPs should voluntarily surrender their weapons - especially those who had licensed guns.

He says with the election just around the corner it would be a good example if MPs surrendered their arms.
