Pacific Games Council encouraged by recent visit to PNG

The Pacific Games Council Executive Director says they are increasingly confident Papua New Guinea will soon be back on track in regard to hosting the 2015 Pacific Games.

Andrew Minogue and the council's executive board have finished another assessment in Papua New Guinea after being seriously concerned about the state of funding and facilities when they last visited in February.

Mr Minogue says things have moved positively since then but they are still looking for certainty over funding.

He says there's no talk of moving the Games at this stage.

"The question I think, in terms of deadlines, is around whether the plan that is envisaged for these games will actually be able to be supported or whether contingency plans need to be drawn up. I think realistically the idea of taking the games away from this country is not on the table."
