Niue Chamber of Commerce relishes improved government links

The Niue Chamber of Commerce is optimistic about the future of the private sector because of improved relations with the government.

Its chair, Avi Rubin, says the government is very supportive of the private sector and has developed a very good tourism department.

He has told a follow-up visit on last year's Pacific Islands Forum peer review that the relationship has just got better.

Mr Rubin says the peer review helped ensure all sectors are on the same page.

He says this now includes the Chamber being invited to government meetings with heads of departments.

"To make sure what is in the pipeline, what the planning is to do and how the private sector can benefit. The other one is when it comes to aid talks, bilateral talks, we are involved and we present our case of what we need and what we want to happen and they seem to listen."
