Fiji's military head says the ten Fijian soldiers of the Multinational Force and Observers, in Egypt were not kidnapped.

International media reported the ten were kidnapped by Bedouin tribesmen in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula demanding authorities free fellow tribesmen from prison, before being released.

The Land Force Commander, Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga says it was a roadblock incident, and media reports are distorted.

He said the tribesmen stopped the soldiers at a checkpoint and fired warning shots.

Fiji Village reports Colonel Tikoitonga as saying intense negotiations were held for more than one hour and the Fijian soldiers were allowed to go through.
