The principal of the largest high school in American Samoa says the presence of security guards and elders at the school has stopped students fighting.
Tafuna High School hired three security officers and four safety patrol officers after several incidents, one of which Samoa News says saw a teacher hospitalised.
Principal Lentoy Matagi says the guards, who spent three months at the school earlier this year, and a programme which saw elderly citizens talking to students has stopped the problem.
"There's no longer fights. The students going off campus were the ones that held them. But they've stopped them going off campus because they would have to get an off campus slip before they leave."
Lentoy Matagi says she would like the guards to stay at the school but the money from the Government which funded them has run out.
