Reports from Papua New Guinea say about 30 armed soldiers went on a rampage in a revenge attack at 5-Mile Ridge in Port Moresby on Sunday morning.

The Defence Force chief-of-staff Alois Tom Ur has told the newspaper, The National, that he is disturbed to hear about the incident.

He says if it is true, those soldiers involved will be dealt with by police.

An eyewitness says the troops arrived in five 10-seater vehicles and set upon the settlers after a soldier was hit during an argument in the settlement last Saturday.

The report says a car had its windscreen smashed and household furniture and food gardens were destroyed by the soldiers.
