Fiji AG says permit request in line with Public Order Decree

Fiji's interim Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, says getting police permits for public meetings or gathering doesn't amount to a restriction.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum has told Fijivillage that the Public Order Amendment Decree clearly deals with racial and religious vilification and economic sabotage.

He says some of those complaining about getting permits were involved in using the race card to secure votes in the past.

He says people wanting to discuss their submissions on the new constitution will not be stopped from having meetings.
