Police in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands hope a new electronic crash reporting system will help them achieve a zero road toll.
The Department of Public Safety's Acting Commissioner says the system will allow police to electronically transmit crash reports from their cars to an island-wide database.
Ambrosio Ogumoro says the system will reduce road injuries and fatalities and has so far been installed in two police vehicles.
He says the initiative is part of a larger effort which includes electronic citations, a roadway information management system, and an integrated reporting analysis tool.
He says funding for the project comes from a federal grant awarded to CNMI's Office of High way Safety and it will be completely installed by September 2012.
