American Samoa had no road fatalities last year, the first time there have been no traffic related deaths in recent memory.
The Department of Public Safety says there were a lot of close calls but the use of selt belts helped prevent deaths.
The co-ordinator of the Highway Safety Programme, Fred Scanlan, says they have launched their latest awareness campaign to encourage people to keep buckling up.
"Just a reminder, out there, to continue to be compliant as far as the law goes and everybody will be safe. Last year we didn't have any fatalities and we had a lot of close calls and crashes. It could have been worse to be honest with you. We had a total of 18 close calls last year - they were all wearing seat belts."
