Researchers in Fiji say young people aged 20 to 29 may not be taking the issue of HIV/Aids seriously.

Statistics by Fiji Network Plus indicate the highest number of new HIV/Aids cases recorded in the country last year are in the 20 to 29 age group.

According to the Fiji Times newspaper 25 new cases were recorded in this age category, followed by 21 in the 30 to 39 age group.

Fewer than ten cases were registered for other age categories.

The newspaper reports that Fiji Network Plus results show that the 20 to 29 age category has been consistently registering the highest numbers of HIV/AIDS cases over the years.

Fiji Network Plus says the numbers indicate young people are not taking advice about HIV/AIDS seriously.
