The Ministry of Forestry in Fiji is clamping down on illegal logging in the Northern Division.

The Ministry says illegal logging is a growing problem particularly in Macuata Province where people are illegally taking logs.

The Assistant Divisional Forestry Officer Northern, Viliami Cegumalua says in the last two weeks three people have been caught stealing timber.

"Well we are tightening on the issuance of licences. We are requesting the assistance of the commissioner northern and other enforcement agencies here like the police and the LTA."
