Solomon Islands in talks with NZ and Australia on importing cows

11:11 am on 23 May 2012

The ministry of agriculture in Solomon Islands is in negotiations with Australia and New Zealand to import more cows.

Late last year the government imported cows from Vanuatu which are currently being held under quarantine at the Tenavatu farm since their arrival.

The agriculture ministry is hoping to revive the cattle industry in the country.

But according to the Solomon Star newspaper, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Connelly Sandakabatu the plans are yet to be confirmed.

Mr Sandakabatu says the ministry wants to import high-quality cows.

He says any decision on this will be made at the end of next month.
