Vanuatu is eyeing a dose of revenge when their Oceania Nations Cup football campaign kicks off this week.

The Melanesian side face New Caledonia in their first match in Honiara on Friday - a side who thrashed them 5-0 when they met at last year's Pacific Games.

Vanuatu team spokesperson Harry Attison says their team has improved a lot since August.

"The change we have now in the team is we have some of our 2007 Pacific Games bronze medalists and also we have eleven under 23/under 20 players in the team so we are depending on all these fresh legs coming back from the Olympic Qualifiers in New Zealand, a few months ago in Taupo. The youngesters will the old players - the experienced players - we can make a good team against New Caledonia."

The top four teams in Solomon Islands will advance to the next stage of FIFA World Cup qualifying.
