American Samoa District Court Judge John Ward has retained bail at 100,000 US dollars for Folasa Galea'i who is facing drugs charges.

The 19 year-old is charged with two counts of possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute.

Last Friday, customs agents found in a box that Mr Galea'i went to pick up at the local Post Office, 12 pounds of crystal methamphetamine and 12 bundles of dried marijuana leaves.

The drugs were stuffed in cans marked as whole tomatoes, which were sealed.

Assistant Public Defender Donna Clement who represented Mr Galea'i in his initial court appearance asked for a reduction in bail.

However prosecutor Cable Poag objected saying the 100,000 bail should remain, given the quantity of the drugs found.

Mr Galea'i is now seeking a private attorney and he will be back in court on Thursday for his preliminary examination.
