Vanuatu police say they believe the four remaining prison escapees have split up and left Port Vila's urban area.
Two of the group of seven escapees have been recaptured and about 50 people arrested for harbouring the prisoners.
The Vanuatu Daily Post reports three of the escapees frequently abscond and are familiar with the outskirts of Port Vila.
The newspaper reports the two recaptured escapees are still receiving treatment at the Vila Central Hospital for serious injuries they have sustained in the process of their capture.
