The Fiji Sugar Corporation has assured farmers between Sigatoka and Nadi that the Navo Railway Bridge will be ready before the cane crushing season begins later this month.
The FSC executive chair, Abdul Khan has confirmed to FBC news that work on the bridge is progressing well and should open before the Lautoka Sugar Mill begins crushing.
The bridge was washed away by the floods in March.
Transportation of cane falls under the Fiji Sugar Corporation however, the Government is mindful of the recent losses and damage sustained by FSC due to the recent floods.
The Permanent Secretary for Sugar, Manasa Vaniqi has also assured farmers of a subsidy under the Sugar Master Plan if the Navo Railway bridge is not ready for use.
