Solomons finance minister hopes for continued EU support

The Solomon Islands finance minister says Europe's financial troubles could mean less development assistance for the Pacific.

Rick Hou made the comment on the eve of the meeting of the European Union and African, Caribbean and Pacific group of countries.

Mr Hou says as the EU is an important donor, Solomon Islands is keen to look for more budget support.

"It's a concern that everybody has, but some of these things are agreements that governments already have have with the ACP group of countries, so we do understand and acknowledge there's a lot of issues facing Europe, and they'll have to be looking out for their own members, but we're hoping the ACP will continue to receive assistance."

Rick Hou says negotiating an Economic Partnership agreement for the Pacific, which will replace current trade agreements, is high on the agenda.
