Nauru faces more political turmoil - President dumps Cabinet

4:34 pm on 11 June 2012

The President of Nauru has sacked his Cabinet.

Sprent Dabwido took power late last year and brought many members of the then Opposition into government in what was the third administration in a number of days.

He has told the country that after seven months in power his government has made no progress on his desire for constitutional amendments aimed at bringing political stability to Nauru.

Mr Dabwido says it has become increasingly evident that he and the Cabinet cannot work together.

The President says he is deeply aware the news will cause concern and surprise to the people of Nauru and has asked them to be patience and calm.

A new Cabinet line up is yet to be named.
