The European Union has been warned not to forget its moral obligation to the African, Caribbean and Pacific group of countries.

The ACP council of ministers meeting has officially opened in Vanuatu.

The Secretary General of the ACP, Dr Mohammed Chambas, told the meeting, that for better or worse, Europe will always be part of the ACP.

"It would be wrong for us in the ACP to continue to operate on the basis of an entitlement mentality. At the same time Europe would be wrong to assume that old attitudes would suffice for a world that has changed beyond what anyone could have imagined. Truth of the matter is that Europe will not be Europe if it abandoned its moral obligations."
