Fiji interim government says Sea Shepherd group not welcome

11:18 am on 12 June 2012

Fiji's interim government says the international environmental group the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is not welcome in the country.

In a statement it says radical international groups like Sea Shepherd sensationalise fishing practices for self-promotion at the expense of disrupting legitimate conservation work.

It says such groups will not be tolerated.

The interim government says it is working with local and international conservation organisations and the fishing industry to protect the country's marine resources.
