Nomination period for Samoa's head of state extended

A motion to extend by five weeks the nomination for Samoa's head of state post has been passed.

The current head of state, Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, is the first to take the position for five years under the requirements of the constitution after Malietoa Tanumafili II.

Under the requirements of the constitution the current head of state can be re-appointed by parliament for another term in office.
