The head of Samoa's Weightlifting Federation says they have high hopes for the two lifters qualified for next month's London Olympics.

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Ele Opeloge qualified via last week's Oceania and Commonwealth Championships in Apia, while Samoa also received a placing for one male lifter, which went to To'afitu Perive.

The President of Samoa's Weightlifting Federation, Jerry Wallwork, says they have particularly high hopes for Opeloge.

"She's right up there, just outside of the medal contingency. So she's fourth at the moment now but anything can happen from now - it's six to seven weeks until the Olympic Games - she can produce and do a little bit more and we're just keeping our fingers crossed that we don't get any more injuries, that she doesn't get sick, and we can keep focused until the six weeks now until the Olympic Games."

Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand and Kiribati also qualified lifters for London.
