Two crew fired for drinking on job in American Samoa

Two crew members of the American Samoa Government vessel, MV Sili, are being fired for allegedly drinking on the job.

The director of Port Administration Matagi Ray McMoore has confirmed that an engineer and a cook awaiting certification as a mate are being terminated.

The two crew members were drinking when the boat returned from Manu'a on its last trip two weeks ago, before it went on the slipway.

They are given three days to respond if they believe they have been wrongly terminated.

Matagi says an inspection by the coast guard later this week will determine if the vessel is ready to sail.
