New Zealand born baseball player Daniel Devonshire, who is of Tongan descent, has been picked up by American Major League Baseball team the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 20-year-old was selected out of Colby Community College in Kansas in the 37th round of the amateur draft.

He will be monitored by scouts as he plays in the Western Major Baseball League this Northern summer.

Devonshire also has a big decision to make before the signing deadline on July 13: as a freshman Devonshire can either return to school or test his talents within the Blue Jays organization,

Devonshire's maternal grandmother is Tongan.
