At least seven missing after boat capsizes in Vanuatu

At least seven people are missing in Vanuatu after a boat capsized off Efate.

The Daily Post reports two people swam ashore at Matasso island yesterday, but seven people were still floating with the capsized boat.

The Vanuatu Mobile Force maritime wing has been deployed to the area.

A helicopter sent by the French military in New Caledonia helped with the search yesterday while a French plane has been despatched to continue the search today.

New Caledonian radio says eight people are reported missing.

The metoffice had issued a warning to all mariners of rough seas throughout central and southern Vanuatu for yesterday.
