The American Samoa governor Togiola Tulafono says the StarKist Samoa cannery has increased its workforce by 900 people in two years to more than 2,000.

Togiola met with US based StarKist Company officials last week.

Togiola says he was told production has increased resulting in more people being hired and the plant is now operating six days a week.

He says this is great news for American Samoa as more people are now employed and this means more money going into the local economy.
