Indonesian police have issued warrants for five people they allege are behind a series of recent shootings in Papua's provincial capital Jayapura.
The police spokesman, Senior Commander Boy Rafli Amar, says they have ordered the immediate arrest of the five.
The Jakarta Globe reports that three others had been arrested earlier.
The spokesman says police managed to piece together the five people's alleged roles in the shootings, a number of which were fatal, partly on information from locals.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's co-ordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs, Djoko Suyanto, says the security situation in Jayapura is improving.
But he says what he calls social jealousy between newcomers and native inhabitants remain.
