Operators of hotels and other accommodation in the Northern Marianas will be required to collect a new 15 US dollar fee from guests starting on July the 1st.

This comes after the Governor Benigno Fitial signed into law a bill the government hopes will generate six million dollars in taxes to help promote tourism and fund environmental programmes.

Under the new law, the fee is collected from guests for each occasion on which they stay at hotels, motels or similar facilities in the CNMI.
