Vanuatu has released 17 low-risk detainees on parole.
The head of the detention center, Pastor Tim Toara, says they have been freed because they have changed and they have shown good behavior.
Pastor Toara says their stay in the detention center offered them an opportunity to learn things like carpentry that will help them in their future life.
He says when he entered the detention center in Port Vila, he was a criminal but he changed his life and was later ordained to become a pastor.
