American Samoa's Manu'a running out of supplies

8:07 am on 22 June 2012

Stores in Manu'a in American Samoa are running low on supplies, while there is little fuel available for motor vehicles.

This is the third week without a boat trip to Manu'a from Pago Pago to deliver supplies.

The government vessel, MV Sili, is undergoing maintenance and will not be ready for another two weeks.

"The American Samoa Power Authority is chartering the Samoa vessel Fotu o Samoa for a trip to Manu'a today ( Friday NZ time ) to take fuel supplies for the power plant and water pumps."

The Authority is also allowing families to take cargo on the charter.

The Port Director Matagi Ray McMoore says the charter will be enough to take supplies for stores and families.
