A special contingent from the Tonga Defense Services will travel to Hawaii today to take part in the RimPac military training exercise.

Coordinated by the US Marine Force the exercise involves more than 20 nations.

Radio Tonga reports that the Tongan contingent has spent four weeks in training so they can take part in what is the world's largest international maritime war exercise beginning this weekend in and around Hawaii.

The exercise will involve 25,000 personnel, about 40 naval craft and more than 200 aircraft.

The Tongan squad of 21 will spend a month and a half in Hawaii and work closely with the US Marines, concentrating on physical fitness, tactics and weapons skills.
